The Design of a website is very important for its success. Here I selected some discussions about Web Design, some of my opinions, what you should know about Web Design, some definitions, videos and more. Enjoy!

Why should I pay for a Design if these days I can find tools that allow me to do it myself? This is a very common question and it has a simple answer: Because a website represents your business virtually on the web, and it is preferable to have an appropriate website that will represent you and your business adequately. As a professional Web Designer I can do this job very well, because I am familiar with colors, fonts, images and other details to build an appropriate layout for your business.

Each browser reads website codes differently which can distort the layout visually; such as layouts that don't fit properly on the screen, are not well aligned or have images that never load. This is nobody's fault, but in a way it is everyone's fault! What happens is browsers such as Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Chrome are produced by different companies and each of this browsers reads these codes differently. So, every time I view websites with problems it's the browser's fault, right? Yes and no.

It is the web designer's role to setup the codes in a format that all browsers can read without many variations. This can be avoided by using clean codes and not too many fancy features. So, it's the Designers fault? Yes and no.

Some old browsers like Internet Explorer 6.0 are not recommended anymore. They don’t have a support team anymore and I.E. already has 3 newer versions. Even so, there are some people using the old browsers. Then it's the users fault, because it is their responsibility to update their web browsers with recent versions, right?

As stated earlier, it is nobody’s fault and everybody’s fault! If browser companies, designers and users all do their part, we will see better websites on the internet. So, check your browser version. And if you need an update, here are links to the most recent browser’s. Having one of these will ensure problem free navigating on the web.

Relationship Client and Web Designer

This video is a very interesting discussion about Design, web and client relationship. Paul Boag is a Headscape/ Author of "Website owners manual". I couldn't agree more when he says that the relationship between clients and the Designer should be based on collaboration and not on confrontation. Take a look and enjoy!

Is WordPress killing Web design?

Dan Oliver (the editor of .Net Magazine) is leading this discussion with experienced and well renown Web Designers about all the open source CMS on the internet. Is it helping or killing Web design? I agree with some of the designers when they state that design will be limited with these tool structures. WordPress, and other CMS tools don't allow 100% free creation. So it's best to consider the client's needs before deciding to use one of these tools.

Most people tend to use the Web Designer term for someone that creates websites. With no distinction between Design and Code or other techniques. But this is not completely correct. See bellow for some more appropriate definitions for each profession:

Web Designer - Person that deals with the visual aspect of a website. They know and understand what colors, fonts, images, and page layouts are the most aesthetically pleasing, With their expertise they can then create a website as attractive as possible.

Programmer - They write and deal with the unseen coding aspect of a website, and are primarily concerned with making a website function quickly, efficiently, and with stability.

Developer - Like a programmer, the developers write and deal with codes, but they go further; dealing with manual testing, technical support, bugfix verification, documentation, system administration, etc.

Graphic Designer - A graphic designer creates graphics primarily for published, printed or electronic media. They deal with all the drawing, images, image effects, etc.
